We started with a group of seven. A knee problem cut us down to six strong before we climbed the fence in groups of two. Our limping man behind took one radio, I took the other. If the authorities rolled up behind us we’d at least know about it. For some this was the first crane, for others it was the tallest, for me it was another that I had had my eye on for some time.

Once again, stairs, lots and lots of them. One of these days I’m just gonna take the elevator. Or maybe I’ll just suck it the hell up and get back in shape. The lcd display in the cab put the height at 700 feet. The second highest I’ve done.

Some of our party were a bit nervous up there that I could tell. Conquering fears is an endeavor far more difficult than the physical climb and I commend them for their fortitude. We took our time with this one. It’s height, superior to all other buildings in the city, gave it a breathtaking view and the weather, though a bit hazy in visibility, was relatively warm in temperature.

When all were satisfied we retreated, peeking out a crack in the fence to check for any problems before going over. As we walked back to the cars I noticed a couple of our group look over their shoulder at the tower they had just summited. They might not know it yet, but they were hooked.

The city is incredible from that vantage point. Thanks.
I’ve daydreamed about sneaking up that crane. If I could see my condo from there I would have but its straight down 3rd across from Paul Brown. All the tallest buildings are between me and it.
I’m in shape, let me know next time, probably too chicken to go through with it, but I could physically do it.

This is so freakin awesome! Do you guys have any high-res photos you could email me, or upload and post the link? I’d kill for the 1st and 2nd one! Thanks, Adam … emailadamthis@gmail.com

Clicking on the pics will give you a high enough res photo for a desktop or a moderately sized print. If you want a poster I’m afraid you’ll need to throw at least a few pennies my way.

Videos don’t work great at night, at least not with the camera I have. There will be more vids of other stuff in the future.

Man this site is a thrill to read! Been wasting a lot my time the past couple weeks. I used to be in to this kind of stuff when I lived in Raleigh ten yrs ago. I’d love to see some radio tower pics. Best one is a 1600′ FM tower in Apex. You can go to about 1200′ safely–don’t go near the transmitter. The climb is intense but the view is insane.

Once again, it was a pleasure to explore with y’all. Even though my knee problem kept me sidelined, it was still a blast. I look forward to future, and hopefully injury free, endeavors.

Dude, sweet stuff. Pics are real nice. Again excuse my British ignorance, but which city is this?

  9. Zero, it is the beautiful Queen City of Cincinnati, pretty much the best city in all of the USA. That tower they’re building will be the worlds tallest tower upon completion and Cincinnati is home to some of the best sports teams in the nation.

Ok, maybe I exaggerated a little bit. It’s actually not even going to be the tallest tower in the state, our sports teams suck and the weather is nasty, but our city is pretty gritty and cool.

    Excellent shots NPOS crew.

That’s absolutely insane guys. The funny thing is, my dad’s company are the people who are building that tower. Seriously, that thing is monstrous. Love the play on words in the title.
